Act Now on Your BMW EV! Federal Tax Rebates Are on the Chopping Block

February 6th, 2025 by

California and the Trump administration look like they are squaring off over ending the tax breaks on electric vehicles enacted under the Biden administration. California Gov. Gavin Newsom is ready to step in with electric vehicle rebates if and when the federal tax credit goes buh-bye.

Newsom made his position clear last November:

“We will intervene if the Trump administration eliminates the federal tax credit, doubling down on our commitment to clean air and green jobs in California,” Mr. Newsom, a Democrat, said in a statement. “We’re not turning back on a clean transportation future — we’re going to make it more affordable for people to drive vehicles that don’t pollute.”

BMW is a leader in promoting green automotive options, including plug-in hybrids and especially all-electrics, such as the BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW i5, and BMW i7.

Besides saving money up front with rebates and tax incentives – up to $9,500 for California residents – driving a BMW EV will save you big-time on annual fuel costs. There’s also lower maintenance needed on EVs. So, even though you may spend a little more initially, your investment will pay off over time. Older concerns over range and charging have been met with more charging stations and better route planning, for example, with BMW Charging and the BMW Range & Route Planner.

There are also rewards with cleaner air and helping to slow down climate change. There additionally are some definite perks for California EV drivers. For instance, the Department of Motor Vehicles offers a low-cost decal that allows you to drive in the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane. The same decal could give you a discount on toll bridges and highways managed by FasTrak.

BMW’s 2025 i4 Gran Coupe is a favorite among BMW of Fairfield’s customers. Its four-door spaciousness makes it a great city car, and famed BMW handling and German engineering make it a standout on California’s highways. With a range between 227 and 318 miles, depending on charge, driving conditions, and accessory use, it’s a super choice. The BMW i4 got the highest score in the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience among premium vehicle owners.
